How It Works:
Corbin Bore Lap works by pushing the liquid through the barrel on a tight lap. The synthetic sapphire micro-plates align their non-cutting sides with the barrel surface, with the edges directed at any burrs or projections. Two Methods for Using Corbin Bore Lap:
- Lead Slug Lapping:
- A steel cleaning rod is placed in the barrel with a Corbin "Base Guard" copper disk creating a seal.
- Molten lead is poured into the barrel around the rod end and allowed to cool, creating a lead slug.
- The rod is pushed through the barrel, pushing the lead out, and Corbin Bore Lap is applied to the slug.
- The process is repeated as the rod is worked back and forth, slowly loosening the lead slug from the bore.
- This method is typically used on unblued barrels or those that will be reblued after lapping.
- Cloth Patch Polishing:
- Use a brass brush one caliber smaller than the barrel size and wrap it with a large cloth patch.
- Corbin Bore Lap is applied to the cloth, and the patch is stroked through the barrel: two inches forward, one inch back, repeatedly.
- This method can help remove rust, tool marks, and severe fouling but can slightly increase bore diameter with frequent use.
