Introducing the AirMarksman FRAG Fragmenting Hunting Slug Made by Corbin

A New Chapter in Airgun Projectile Design

For decades, airgun hunters have faced a fundamental tradeoff: precision slugs deliver accuracy and deep penetration, but lack the rapid energy transfer of a fragmenting projectile. Hollow point designs exist, but most collapse inward unpredictably rather than deploying the controlled, repeatable expansion that serious hunters demand. The result is inconsistent terminal performance — acceptable for target shooting, but a liability in the field where a clean, ethical harvest matters.

Corbin has solved that problem. Working with AirMarksman, Corbin precision-engineered a purpose-built fragmenting airgun slug unlike anything previously available in the market. Utah Airguns has just released it to the public — and the airgun hunting community is taking notice.

Introducing the AirMarksman FRAG Frangible Grenade Slug

The AirMarksman FRAG is a .22 caliber, 40.1 grain long-range boat tail slug — precision swaged by Corbin in the USA — featuring a revolutionary four-petal fragmentation system engineered for controlled, repeatable terminal performance. It is not a modified pellet or an adapted firearm bullet. It was designed from the ground up specifically for high-powered PCP airguns.

The tin says it plainly: Made in the USA by Corbin. That is a guarantee of the dimensional precision, alloy consistency, and manufacturing quality that Corbin has delivered for 54 years.

How the Four-Petal Fragmentation System Works

Traditional hollow point projectiles expand by collapsing the nose cavity inward as the slug decelerates on impact. At airgun velocities the results are inconsistent — sometimes expanding, sometimes not, depending on the target medium.

The FRAG slug takes a fundamentally different approach. Rather than relying on inward collapse, the four-petal design deploys outward in a controlled, symmetrical pattern on impact. The petals separate radially and transfer energy rapidly, creating immediate, consistent expansion regardless of impact velocity. This is engineered performance — not chance performance.

The slug features a dual-stage terminal performance profile: the four petals deliver immediate, wide-diameter energy transfer and shock, while the solid rear core maintains mass and continues on a straight-line path for deep penetration. You get both rapid energy transfer and deep penetration simultaneously.

Ballistics Built for the Hunt

The FRAG slug carries a ballistic coefficient of .2 — exceptional for a fragmenting design of this weight class. The long-range boat tail base geometry reduces drag and improves stability at distance. Precision swaged construction ensures that every slug in the tin has the same weight, diameter, and geometric profile as the one before it — eliminating the variation that costs hunters accuracy in the field.

Why This Could Only Come from Corbin

Designing a fragmenting slug that deploys consistently, maintains a useful BC, and is produced to the tolerances required for accuracy is not something you accomplish with off-the-shelf tooling. The four-petal geometry requires die work of exceptional precision. Asymmetric deployment does not just reduce effectiveness — it introduces rotational forces that destabilize the slug in flight.

Corbin builds its own dies. Our toolmakers designed the FRAG geometry, cut the tooling in-house, tested it against real-world impact data, and refined it until the deployment was repeatable and consistent. That capability comes from 54 years of making precision swaging dies for the most demanding applications in projectile manufacturing.

Available Now Through Utah Airguns

The AirMarksman FRAG Frangible Grenade Slug is available now in .22 caliber (40.1 gr., .2175 inch diameter) in 125-count tins through Utah Airguns — our exclusive retail partner for the AirMarksman line of Corbin-manufactured airgun slugs. If you are a PCP airgun hunter who has been waiting for a slug that delivers genuine field performance without sacrificing accuracy, this is it.

The Future of Corbin Airgun Slug Development

The FRAG is the latest product in a growing partnership between Corbin's precision manufacturing capability and the airgun community's demand for world-class projectiles. From the standard precision slugs that swept the RMAC podium to the record-setting BC designs in .22, .25, .30, and .357, and now to this fragmenting hunting slug — Corbin is committed to advancing what is possible with swaged airgun ammunition. More calibers and designs are in development, all built to the same uncompromising standard.
