Packaging your custom bullets for resale and shipping to customers is an important part of your marketing. The package must do at least three things to be cost effective:
- Prevent damage to bullets in transit
- Eliminate the need for a shipping container in addition to the bullet box
- Hold a wide range of calibers and lengths to reduce inventory cost
Corbin's BOX-1 bullet packaging kit handles all three issues in an attractive manner. The box itself is stout enough to handle the rigors of direct shipment without using another container. This eliminates the false economy of a plastic or thin cardboard box that would come apart in transit without the added expense of a corrugated shipping container and padding.
The bullets are individually packed in their own cells within the 25-hole matrix of a soft, pliable charcoal foam block, with a separate 1/4 inch nose and base pad on the top and bottom. The bullets arrive in the same condition as they leave your press, without the dings and scratches, bent noses and crushed hollow bases that are typical of bulk-packed bullets.
From the business standpoint, Corbin's BOX-1 makes good marketing sense because it is useful for all calibers from 22 to 50 with one single inventory. The soft foam insert expands to hold calibers from 257 to 512, and provides a safe chamber to hold smaller bullets surrounded by soft padding. This means you can use the same box for nearly all calibers, and save both space and investment cost.
The quantity of 25 bullets is an ideal marketing number because most of the rifle calibers are sold in cartridge boxes of 20. This means your clients will always have five bullets left from loading a full box of rifle cartridges, to inspire and remind them to order more. If you packaged the bullets in any multiple of 20, it is much more likely that the client will load all the bullets into boxes of cartridges, with none left over and no reason to keep the box. The odds are just that much better that a customer who needs to keep the box around to use up the last five will be reminded to order more of the same!
Pistol cartridges usually are sold in boxes of 50 rounds, so that a pistol shooter wishing to load a full box of cartridges will probably wish to purchase two boxes of your bullets instead of just one. But the price per box is more attractive to someone scanning the list, even though it holds half as many bullets. In marketing tests, most people are attracted to the lower box price even if, in purchasing two boxes, they actually pay the same per bullet as when presented with a single box holding twice as many at twice the price. Mathematical logic says the two deals are identical, but the impression made by the price alone is subtle and powerful. The same psychology takes place at a casino, where the $5 minimum bet tables are always packed even though players may be making the same bets as at the less crowded $10 minimum tables.
Besides the psychology of marketing, there is a practical reason to offer smaller quantity packaging: more people can afford to try it. Since your product is undoubtedly new to many shooters, they may be twice as hesitant to buy a box of 50 as they would be to buy a box of only 25, if the bullets each cost the same. By offering them a box with a lower total cost, you can offer more people an opportunity to give your product a try and still not have to reduce your return on investment. In fact, you may be able to get a higher return because the total price of the box can be less even with a higher price for each bullet.

Corbin's BOX-1 "Bullet Box" is sold singly, or in any quantity. You can purchase from 1 to 50 boxes just to fill rush orders while your regular packaging is being made, or try the idea before investing in stocking inventory. The boxes are shipped flat, and fold up into a triple end-wall thickness that supports weights which would crush ordinary case and bullet boxes. The charcoal foam inserts and pads come with the boxes and are included in the price. You need only to add your shipping label. A free template for a combined shipping, display, and closure sealing label may be requested with any order, or you can download the PDF file from our document server at www.swage.com/ftp/box-1lab.pdf.
The box dimensions are 3.25 X 3.25 with a 2.25 inch height, tall enough to hold nearly any small arms bullet, or even to stack two pistol bullets base to base so the noses are facing the foam pads if you wish to sell boxes of 50 instead of 25. The foam inserts are 3 X 3 X 2, and the foam pads are each 3 X 3 X 1/4 inch. The box is reusable, so your clients will keep your name and address handy for a long time after the bullets are gone.

New bullet businesses usually purchase 25 to 50 boxes for samples, initial sales, and promotions. Established businesses often purchase quantities of 100 to 500 at a time, which saves money on shipping without using too much storage space. Order your planned stocking inventory using lower cost surface shipment, and a small quantity by air for those critical rush jobs. Unlike typial custom boxes, the BOX-1 is in stock and does not require a minimum quantity order larger than one unit. Order fewer units, more frequently, for more convenient inventory storage. Click for Pricing. Remember, you don't have to spend additional money for shipping boxes, when you use the BOX-1. This is an often-forgotten expense of using lower cost thin-wall cardboard or plastic containers, which will not stand up to direct shipment. Likewise, you do not need to purchase any padding or additional packing materials: all you need to add is your self-adhesive label.
